The Advanced Certification in Integrative Mental Health Care with Chinese Medicine is an advanced professional education program designed to provide healthcare practitioners, acupuncturists, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) practitioners, and integrative healthcare professionals with foundational and applied knowledge in integrative mental health care from a Chinese medicine perspective. The program integrates classical Ben Shen theory, psycho-emotional regulation principles, acupuncture, Chinese herbal medicine, wellness preservation strategies, and modern neuropsychiatric foundations within a contemporary integrative healthcare framework.

This program aims to:

Introduce foundational Ben Shen theories and integrative psycho-emotional care principles within Chinese medicine.

  2. Develop evidence-informed understanding of integrative mental health care.
  3. Strengthen practitioner competencies in supportive communication, patient engagement, and wellness-oriented care.
  4. Integrate acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine approaches into psycho-emotional wellness support within professional scope.
  5. Enhance practitioner awareness of neuropsychiatric foundations, mental health conditions, safety considerations, and referral pathways.
  6. Promote ethical, collaborative, patient-centered, and trauma-informed care approaches.
  7. Develop critical appraisal and evidence-informed clinical reasoning skills in integrative mental healthcare.

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following eligibility requirements:

1. Registered Acupuncture or Traditional Chinese Medicine Professionals.

Applicants must be in good standing with the applicable regulatory authority in their jurisdiction, where regulation exists.

2. Healthcare Professionals Authorized to Practice Acupuncture

Regulated healthcare professionals whose legislated scope of practice includes acupuncture and who are legally authorized to perform acupuncture in their jurisdiction. Examples may include physicians, chiropractors, physiotherapists, nurses, or other regulated health professionals where acupuncture is within their authorized scope of practice.

3. Senior Students

Students enrolled in the final year of an accredited acupuncture or Traditional Chinese Medicine education program.

Applicants are expected to:

  1. Demonstrate foundational knowledge of acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine theory and practice.
  2. Be able to communicate effectively in English, as all instruction, discussions, learning materials, and assessments are delivered in English.
  3. Comply with all applicable professional, ethical, and regulatory requirements throughout the program.
  4. Maintain professional conduct and practice within their legislated scope of practice at all times during clinical demonstrations, case discussions, and any supervised practical activities.
